Employment law update November 2011
There seem to have been a flurry of announcements from the government about changes to employment law in recent weeks.
In a speech last week the Prime Minister announced that there will be a consultation process on “protected conversations”. The idea behind this is that employers and employees will be able to have full and frank conversations about employment and performance problems without the employer fearing his or her words will be used against him in a constructive unfair dismissal claim.
This comes hot on the heels of announcements confirming that the qualifying service period for unfair dismissal claims will be increased from one to two years with effect from April 2012; as well as a proposal to introduce fees for commencing employment tribunal claims.
It remains to be seen how exactly these proposals will be implemented. Watch this space and we will bring you more details as and when they arise.
